Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Quotes

This week’s focus for Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl) is our favorite quotes.  Here are a few that have stood out to me over the years.

  1.  “They hung in the air in exactly the way that bricks don’t.”  Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
  2. “Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing.”  To Kill A Mockingbird
  3. “As everyone had long feared, it was Tennessee football that finally killed Jerome Malcolm.” Orange Blossom Special
  4. “Selective ignorance, a cornerstone of child rearing. You don’t put kids under surveillance: it might frighten you. Parents should sit tall in the saddle and look upon their troops with a noble and benevolent and extremely nearsighted gaze.” Leaving Home
  5. “Sometimes you have to watch somebody love something before you can love it yourself. It is as if they are showing you the way.” Blue Like Jazz
  6. “If you have to choose between following money or following your heart, go with your heart. There are some choices we make that cannot be corrected. Squandering your life in a job that shrivels your soul isn’t one of them. Use your gifts. Follow your heart.” Front Porch Tales
  7. “Most times we only see things for the way we are. But we’re good at lying to ourselves. Sometimes we need somebody who’s not living in our skin to point out how things really are.” The Mystery of Grace
  8. “Truth usually makes no sense. If your desire is for everything to make perfect sense, then you should take refuge in fiction. In fiction, all threads tie together in a neat bow and everything moves smoothly from one point to the next to the next. In real life, though… nothing makes sense. Bad things happen to good people. The pious die young while the wicked live until old age. War, famine, pestilence, death all occur randomly and senselessly and leave us more often than not scratching our heads and hurling the question ‘why?’ into a void that provides no answers.” Tigerheart
