Booking Through Thursday — Peeking?

Do you cheat and peek at the ends of books? (Come on, be honest.)

I try not to. Part of the fun is the unexpected twists, turns and developments of the story.

But if a book is really wearing me down and I am struggling to finish it, I sometimes peek ahead to the ending and then decide if I want to continue. Or if a book isn’t engaging me like I’d like but I am still curious enough to know how it all comes out. But these are pretty few and far between for me.

  1. I honestly don’t do it … I think I’m programmed just to read one direction and not jump ahead. But I can see the reasoning behind skipping ahead if a book is wearing on you … when books start wearing on me I count the pages to the end to find out how much longer I have to go.

  2. Sometimes I look ahead, but I don’t consider it cheating.

  3. There are circumstances, but I don’t like anything to spoil the book for me.

  4. I sometimes find that I’m enjoying the plot of a book but not the writing, in which case I’d skip ahead like you either to see if it picks up or just to satsify my curiosity. If my enjoyment of a book has descended to that level I don’t really consider it cheating!
